Petition to deport MAGA rapper Nicki Minaj to Trinidad hits 30k signatures after she came to U.S. illegally

A Change.org petition calling for the deportation of rapper Nicki Minaj back to Trinidad has surpassed 30,000 signatures this week, after supporters discovered the MAGA enthusiast who recently praised President Trump's hardline immigration policies is herself an undocumented immigrant who entered the United States illegally as a child.

The petition, which has gained significant traction following Minaj's appearance at Turning Point USA's AmericaFest convention where she called Trump both handsome and dashing, argues that the 42-year-old artist should be subject to the same deportation standards she has enthusiastically endorsed for others.

"It turns out she's been here illegally this whole time," said petition organizer, who noted the irony of Minaj's vocal support for an administration that has deported over 600,000 people in less than a year. "She literally praised policies designed to remove people exactly like her."

The rapper, born Onika Maraj in Trinidad and Tobago, has publicly acknowledged she came to America at age five without proper documentation and still holds only a green card. In 2018, during Trump's first term, she even wrote on Instagram about how cruel it was to separate immigrant children from their families, noting she could hardly imagine such treatment at that age since she was once an immigrant child herself.

By December 2025, however, Minaj was praising the very president whose administration has ended Temporary Protected Status for thousands of immigrants and eliminated protections for sensitive locations like schools and churches where ICE can now conduct raids.

"I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president," Minaj told Erika Kirk at the conservative gathering, apparently unaware that Trump's Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency has been empowered to target precisely the demographic category into which she falls.

Vice President JD Vance responded to Minaj's support by weighing in on her long-standing feud with rapper Cardi B, posting that he prefers Minaj. The endorsement came from the same administration that recently announced 1.6 million immigrants have lost their legal status in 2025 alone.

Political analysts noted the situation represents a fascinating case study in cognitive dissonance, as Minaj simultaneously champions policies that would result in her own removal while complaining she hasn't received honorary citizenship despite paying millions in taxes.

"The math is pretty simple," explained immigration attorney Maria Gonzalez. "She's praising a president who has overseen the deportation of hundreds of thousands of people, while being deportable herself. It's like a fish campaigning for dryer climates."

Republican supporters of Minaj's MAGA pivot have remained characteristically quiet about her immigration status, apparently making an exception to their zero-tolerance stance on illegal immigration for celebrities who say nice things about their preferred politicians.
