Trump supporter, Judy Leonard Davidson, who receives a 2.5 percent cost-of-living adjustment to her Social Security, reported in a lengthy social media post that her monthly check increase of approximately $40 barely covers rising medication, doctor, and Medicare costs. She went on to express bewilderment that Trump's administration has pursued the exact policies he campaigned on.
"I voted for Trump 3 times, but he's doing things that don't make sense," Davidson wrote, apparently unaware that congressional Republicans have enacted historic cuts to SNAP totaling approximately $186 billion through their reconciliation legislation, which Trump signed into law in July.
Davidson's post detailed her concerns about cuts to EBT benefits affecting low-income families, noting that children from poor families won't have access to adequate snacks and meals. She expressed particular confusion about restrictions on what items can be purchased with benefits, asking, "Make it make sense."
Political analysts were unavailable for comment, as they were too busy double-checking whether this was reality or an elaborate social experiment testing how much cognitive dissonance one person can experience in a single Facebook post.
During Trump's first term, the administration sought to cut approximately 700,000 people from SNAP, though courts blocked many of these efforts. The current Republican budget proposals include work requirements for adults up to age 64, elimination of categorical eligibility, and requirements that states cover between 5 and 15 percent of benefit costs depending on error rates.
"I'm still for Trump so hopefully something will start changing," Davidson concluded in her post, demonstrating an inspiring level of optimism that the person implementing the policies she opposes will somehow stop implementing the policies she opposes.
Davidson's post also criticized "millionaires or billionaires in office" who can't understand regular people's struggles, apparently referring to someone other than the billionaire real estate mogul she voted for three times.
